The Uttar Pradesh government, in collaboration with UNICEF, has launched a week-long campaign from June 12-19 to combat child labour, aligning with the World Day against Child Labour. Labour Minister Anil Rajbhar announced the initiative during the International Labour Conference in Geneva. The campaign aims to raise awareness and eliminate child labour through various programs. Rajbhar highlighted the state’s efforts, including the establishment of Atal residential schools across 17 divisions to provide education for children of labourers. He also noted India’s progress in social security, with coverage increasing from 19% in 2015 to 64.3% in 2025, now encompassing over 94 crore citizens. Additionally, he addressed the growing gig economy, currently employing about 80 lakh individuals, with projections reaching up to 2.5 crore by 2030.
