The southwest monsoon has become active over Andhra Pradesh, resulting in moderate to heavy rainfall across Rayalaseema and north coastal Andhra Pradesh (NCAP), while south coastal Andhra Pradesh (SCAP) experienced thunderstorms. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall at isolated locations in NCAP, Yanam, and Rayalaseema from June 13 to June 16. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds up to 40-50 kmph are also expected across these regions during this period. Significant rainfall was recorded in districts such as Kurnool, Anantapur, Nandyal, Bapatla, and Vizianagaram, with areas receiving up to 6 cm of rain. The rainfall is driven by an upper air cyclonic circulation over north coastal Andhra Pradesh and adjoining south Odisha, linked with a trough extending through Chhattisgarh, Marathwada, and interior Karnataka.
